The winter storm that meteorologists predicted would hit the northern Plains in the middle of this week dropped as much — and in some places more — snow than was forecast.
Official snow totals were not yet available on Wed., Dec. 15, at 9 a.m., but it's clear from personal observations that there are some hefty ones. The National Weather expected amounts in North Dakota, South Dakota and western Minnesota to range from a few inches to more than a foot.
Heavy bands of snow likely brought the totals higher in certain areas, and snow amounts across will grow if more snow falls on Thursday and Friday, as weather watchers are predicting. Winds also are a picking up across the three states, and the National Weather Service has issue a blizzard warning for western South Dakota
While the snow brought much of the northern Plains to a standstill — schools are closed, businesses are shuttered for the day and roads are impassable — Agweek knows that farmers and ranchers won’t be staying inside during the storm.
We’d love to see your photos of the snowfall on your farms and ranches, the work you’re doing to care for your livestock or cleaning out your farmyards and — if it’s possible — even enjoying the snow with your family, and dogs having snow fun. We would also like to hear your estimates of snow totals.
