The North Dakota Farmers Union is hoping it will be able to intervene in a lawsuit filed by the North Dakota Farm Bureau to get the state's anti-corporate farming law overturned. NDFU President Mark Watne said attorneys for NDFU filed a motion Thursday in U.S. District Court to intervene on the side of the state of North Dakota in the Farm Bureau's lawsuit. The Farm Bureau filed a lawsuit on June 2 to abolish the state's anti-corporate farming laws.
JAMESTOWN, N.D. - A more than 50-year-old rhubarb plant, two river-front garden areas and a smoke bush are some of the sights people can see on the AAUW Garden Tour on Wednesday. This is the 27th tour sponsored by the Jamestown branch of the American Association of University Women. Proceeds from the garden tour support the AAUW Educational Foundation, AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund and the AAUW Endowment Fund at the University of Jamestown. The tour will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
When Megan Karlowsky noticed that her daughter’s Jersey heifer was in labor Tuesday as she was getting settled for the start of the Stutsman County Fair, she didn’t think anything was wrong. Karlowsky said the calf, a Jersey, was about two to two and a half weeks overdue.
Jamestown Rural Fire Department with help from the Jamestown Fire Department contained a wildfire Tuesday afternoon that started along the railroad tracks west of Jamestown. Jamestown Rural Fire Department Assistant Chief Joel Guthmiller said the department was dispatched to the scene of a wildfire at 4:31 p.m., where the railroad tracks run under the bridge of the U.S. 281/52 Bypass closer to Interstate 94. When the department arrived on the scene a fire was on both sides of the track.
The past, present and future of bison in America is a new exhibit on display at the National Buffalo Museum. “Bison: The American Buffalo Then, Now, and Tomorrow,” is a former traveling exhibit developed by the Kauffman Museum of Newton, Kan., for the National Buffalo Foundation. The exhibit is expected to stay at the museum to the end of summer.
