Rain in North Dakota and Minnesota put the kibosh on sugarbeet harvest in some parts of the nation's largest sugarbeet growing region, but that doesn't mean everyone was at standstill.
American Crystal Sugar's harvest update page lists varying factories opened on Oct. 11, depending on weather field conditions were conducive for harvest after a heavy rainstorm moved through the area on Oct. 8-11.
With more rain in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, it remained unclear when harvest would kick into high gear for American Crystal Sugar.
Meanwhile, Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative reported harvest had started there on Oct. 11.
Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative also said main harvest in that area was underway on Oct. 11.
Farther west, Amalgamated Sugar Company, in Idaho, announced its Mini-Cassia and Twin Falls districts had begun harvest on Oct. 4.
Harvest began on Oct. 11 in the Amalgamated Sugar Nampa district.
