Through the years, I’ve heard at least a dozen farmers use the phrase, or a close variation of it, at harvest. When harvest becomes especially stressful, they tell themselves to try to enjoy it because “you get a limited number of these in your farming career.”
Harvest is rewarding (emotionally as well as financially) when the weather cooperates. It’s incredibly frustrating when the weather seems to conspire against you. Some hard-pressed farmers probably will say “Thank goodness; I can’t take many of these” when reminded they have a limited number of harvests in their career.
But if harvest is going reasonably well, try to enjoy it. After all, you won’t get a lot of cracks at it.
