I've never been interested in celebrating -- and usually ignore altogether -- the plethora of days, weeks and months designated to honor a particular product, occupation or economic sector. To me, and this is simply my opinion, they're artificial and have become so commonplace that they lack meaning. That includes National Ag Day, March 21.

To the individuals and groups that will be promoting National Ag Day: hey, good for you. Like you, I believe ag is vital to our econony, and that it can be a wonderful way of life. But, no, I'm not going to be doing anything out of the ordinary March 21. It will be a typical day for me: talking with other aggies and writing my stories.

My life, professionally and personally, revolves around agriculture. To me, every day is National Ag Day.
