They’re two of the most emotionally charged terms in modern agriculture: “family farm” and “corporate farm.” And they’re at the heart of the controversial Measure 1, which would weaken North Dakota’s longstanding ban on corporate farming. The measure will be voted on June 14 in the state’s primary election.

Measure 1 is drawing strong interest in ag circles outside North Dakota, too.

I’m working on a upcoming column that will look at the issue. I’m certainly no expert, but it interests me on several levels: as an ag journalist, as a native North Dakotan raised on a family farm and as a guy who’s always liked history and economics.

So drop me a line in the next few days and tell me how you define ‘family farm’ and ‘corporate farm.” My email address is jknutson@agweek.com
