Over the weekend, I tended some vegetables, apple trees and juneberry bushes that I’ve planted. I’ve used a hoe, my hands and glyphosate (the primary ingredient in Roundup) many times; I’ve hoed, pulled and doused countless weeds. But new ones keep coming back.
It’s no coincidence that my next Agweek column will look at weeds.
Any rational person will agree that weeds are bad. Even so, rational people have serious disagreements involving weeds: the use of Roundup to control them may be the best example.
Those of involved in agriculture, I think, usually have one or two particular weeds that we detest most. For me, it’s leafy spurge: horrible stuff that can devastate pastures.
What weed do you hate most? Drop me a line and let me know.
