Jim Stordahl (standing to the right in the photo above) was easy to like and respect. I visited with the veteran northwest Minnesota dairy farmer and extension agent a number of times by email and on the phone -- and always received good, useful advice and suggestions -- before deciding, "Hey, he'd make a really good Agweek cover story."
Persuading Jim to do so wasn't easy, however. A modest man, he was reluctant to bring attention to himself. But I persisted and eventually, with obvious reluctance, he agreed.
I'd like to think the story turned out pretty well. Jim told me, in his modest way, that he didn't like all the attention, but was otherwise pleased with the story. Nick Nelson, Agweek photographer, took the photo above when we visited Jim for the story in the spring of 2016,

Stordahl, 61, died of cancer last week. Look for a story on his death on the Agweek web site and in the March 20 issue of our magazine.
Ag has lost one of its good guys. Jim was committed to helping others, and he was exceptionally good at doing that.
He'll be missed. And too modest to want me to say so.
