Agricultural groups are upset, angry and even outraged by the Trump administration's proposal to cut $46.54 billion in federal government funding on the ag sector over the next 10 years.
In contrast, critics of federal ag policy applaud many, if not most, of the cuts.
Who's right? Well, you'll have to decide that for yourself. But it's fair to say that the cuts, if enacted, would have a big impact on Agweek Country.
I am sure of this: the soundness and wisdom of government spending can be mighty subjective. Government programs the other guys want are costly and unneeded. Government programs we want are modest and vital.
My best guess: Ag interests are strong enough to stop most of the budget cuts proposed by the White House -- but only after a protacted battle.
