It's that time of year again: farmers and landlords are working on, or already have completed, negotiating new agreements for farmland rental contracts that expired after the 2019 crop season. And so I'm finishing up my annual look at cropland rental rate trends in the Upper Midwest; it's slated to be the Jan. 27 Agweek cover package.

The extension officials, ag bankers, farmers and real estate agents I talked to specifically for the story -- or visited with in 2019 for other stories -- offer a pretty strong consensus on how the new agreements are shaping up.

What's your best guess on what the ag officials are saying?
