It’s an old story: agriculturalists in the western United States struggling to get enough water for their crops and livestock.

Now, a new short  film, “Conservation Generation,” looks at four young farmers and ranchers in Colorado and New Mexico who face major challenge, including historic drought, development and heightened competition for water.

Those challenges are especially strong in the western U.S., according to the National Young Farmers Coalition, which produced the film.

The organization also says a survey of young farmers found that 97 percent  considered water conservation important and 94 percent use some form of conservation on their farms.
