Grandin, ND (WDAY TV) - The recent freezing temps are bringing mixed emotions for farmers. Some farmers are thankful for the newly frozen ground so they can get work done, but hoping the snow doesn't take too much of a toll on their expensive equipment.
It's a rare, frosty sight, combines chugging through snow filled fields.
"It's no fun for anyone when it's this cold out."
In the last 23 years of laboring through harvest seasons, farmer Corby Heller says he's rarely seen years that have compared to this.
"We usually start in the end of September and beginning of October and finish up normally by Halloween."

But that target harvest date was more than a month ago, making farmers like Heller eager, anticipating.
"We're just hoping to be done basically."
The incredibly wet October and the white stuff are making it tough on farmers' equipment as well as costs in the long run."
"There's some loss with the moisture content and, like I say, it's hard on the equipment, it costs more to combine this time of year."
In a year when spring planting was behind and now cutting the crop late, the countdown has already begun for fall 2010.
"Yeah, we're already looking forward to next year."
Just as soon as, that last bean is harvested. Heller hopes to be finished harvesting by tomorrow night.
