May in some ways could be considered the start of our rainy season.
Climatologically, Fargo Moorhead is quite dry from November 1 through April 30. This six month stretch has an average of just 5.8 inches of rain and melted snow with nearly half of that falling during the months of March and April. Both March and April average around 1.3 inches of precipitation.
In May, the average rainfall jumps to 2.81 inches, and we average nearly four inches of rain in June. Over the next six months, the average rainfall is nearly 17 inches out of the annual total of 22.58 inches. Looked at another way, about 75 per cent of our yearly precipitation comes from May 1 through October 31.
So if it seems a little dry at the moment, there is not much reason to be concerned.
