FARGO, N.D. - Daily low temperatures usually occur near sunrise, but not always.

A couple of hours after sundown last Sunday evening (not morning), the temperature was a comfortable 46 degrees after having been in the 50s Sunday. As the sky clouded over Sunday night, the temperature began to rise. By early Monday morning, it had reached 50 degrees. The high that afternoon was a near-record 65 degrees. So the low temperature for Sunday night was 46 degrees.

However, this balmy overnight low will not make the daily temperature record. Daily weather records are kept on a 24-hour clock covering midnight to midnight. In other words, it is for a calendar day. The low temperature for the calendar day of Sunday is the 29 degrees recorded early Sunday morning. The low for the calendar day of Monday is the 22 degrees recorded just before midnight Monday night. But the mild 46 degree low Sunday night is lost.
