FARGO, ,N.D. - February was a relatively warm month in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Only 14 of the 28 days remained below freezing. There were just two subzero mornings. The mean temperature for the month was 9.6 degrees above average and ranks as seventh warmest since 1881.More remarkably, over the same period of record, the February mean temperature over the continental U.S. came in as the second warmest according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies has calculated that worldwide, February of 2017 was the second warmest since 1880.NASA GISS analyzes global temperature using land based weather stations as well as buoy measurements of sea surface temperatures.The infrared, satellite based Global Temperature Report from Dr. John Christy of the University of Alabama-Huntsville has found February, 2017, to be the fourth warmest since the beginning of the satellite record in 1979.
