So far this month, there has been just one tornado in the United States. It was a weak tornado that did no damage in an open area within Fort Riley Army Base in Kansas.

It has been dry and sunny across the Southern Plains and Deep South, where November tornadoes are more common than here. So far this year, approximately 830 tornadoes have been reported throughout the United States. This number is subject to revision once the annual total is scoured for multiple sightings of the same tornadoes.

Nevertheless, 2016 is on a pace to rival and potentially break the record for fewest annual tornadoes. Tornado climatology has been changing in recent years. Annual statistics reveal an obvious drop in the average number of tornadoes annually. However, there has also been an increase in large tornado outbreaks.

In short, there are fewer tornado days but a greater chance those days with tornadoes will have more tornadoes.
