The temperature has yet to drop below zero in Fargo-Moorhead so far this cold season. The coldest day so far was last Friday with a high temperature of 17 degrees and a low of zero. More than half of the days in December so far have had high temperatures above freezing. The monthly average is running more than ten degrees above the long-term average for December. Even with a few chillier days coming, this will almost certainly be the fourth consecutive month of consistently much above average temperatures in our area. However, for most of December, there has been at least some snow on the ground thanks to two snowfalls Nov. 30-Dec. 1 and Dec. 16-17. Had these snows not happened, December weather would have likely broken many records. Interestingly, last winter we had a lot of very cold weather potential but with little snow cover, actual temperatures were about average. This winter so far, the presence of snow cover has tempered our warmth.
