The Bottineau County Sheriff's Department confirmed that two bodies, victims of apparent shootings, were discovered at Turtle Mountain Pork following the incident, which initially was reported at about 8:30 a.m.

While it was not immediately known whether the alleged shooter was among the victims, the sheriff's office urged the public to remain vigilant.

The Souris Fire Department responded to the scene when an air quality alarm was triggered at about 8:30 a.m., according to Fire Chief Les Patterson. However, when fire units arrived, they were turned away.

"The sheriff was in there and we were told it was a crime scene," Patterson said.

Area schools, including those in Bottineau and Newburg, went into lockdown for part of the morning.

The incident remains under investigation by the Bottineau County Sheriff's Department and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Other agencies assisted at the scene.
