Wyoming Sugar's 2022 yields and sugar content above average
Wyoming Sugar Co. estimated 2022 yields of 31.5 to 32 tons per acre, which is above the five-year average, and sugar content averaged about 18.3%, above the long-term average of 18%.
Ideal digging conditions resulted in the completion of Wyoming Sugar Co.’s 2022 harvest by the end of October.
“This is probably one of the easiest, smoothest harvests we’ve had,” said Kadan Huber, Wyoming Sugar agriculturalist. The main harvest began on Oct. 3 and was uninterrupted by adverse weather..
“Three and a half solid weeks of digging,” Huber said.
Farmers planted 11,200 acres of sugarbeets this spring, which, like in other sugarbeet areas, was cold and wet.
“We finished planting the first week of June,” Huber said.
Wyoming Sugar estimated 2022 yields of 31.5 to 32 tons per acre, which is above the five-year average, but slightly lower than 2021.Total production is estimated at 355,000 tons.
This year’s sugar content averaged about 18.3%, above the long-term average of 18%.
