Monsanto has obtained federal supplemental labeling for preharvest application of Roundup PowerMAX herbicide and RT3 herbicide on oilseed crops, such as borage, canola, crambe, cuphea, echium, flax, mustard, rapeseed, safflower and sunflower. The registration is valid through the 2017 growing season.
Richard Zollinger, a North Dakota State University Extension Service weed specialist, says this use was first approved by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in June 2013. This supplemental labeling will allow oilseed growers to make preharvest applications this year and allow more time for Monsanto to incorporate this preharvest use into labeling on product that will be released into the market in 2017.
For more information on the availability of the supplemental labeling, farmers can contact state pesticide agencies or your local Monsanto retailers. The label has been registered in North Dakota, Zollinger says. He advises checking with state regulators for other states. Monsanto officials weren’t immediately available to verify that the application is labeled for South Dakota, Minnesota or Montana.
