BROOKINGS, S.D. - SDSU Extension will host a Cover Crop Forum at the Crossroads Convention Center in Huron on Dec. 6, 2016.

The forum begins at 9 a.m. (central) and runs until 3:30 p.m.

The Cover Crop Forum will feature presentations by research and industry professionals who are actively involved in research on cover crops.

"This event provides an opportunity for crop consultants, industry professionals and producers to familiarize themselves with current cover crop research and results, and the researchers involved in these research activities in South Dakota," said Ruth Beck, SDSU Extension Agronomy Field Specialist.

Topics covered include: a review of cereal rye; the use of coated cover crops; integrating livestock and crops; cover crops and salinity; swath and bale grazing and more.

Speakers will include: Peter Sexton, Associate Professor & SDSU Extension Sustainable Cropping Systems Specialist; Anthony Bly, SDSU Extension Soils Field Specialist; David Karki, SDSU Extension Agronomy Field Specialist; Jason Schley, Agronomist, Next level Ag; Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Assistant Professor, SDSU; Dwayne Beck, manager, Dakota Lakes Research Farm; Dr. Cheryl Reese, lecturer, SDSU; Dr. Shannon Osborne, Research Agronomist, USDA-ARS and Kurt Dagel, Agronomist from Olsen Custom Farms in Hendricks, Minn.

The afternoon will finish with a presentation from Dagel, who will share from experiences using cover crops in a corn soybean rotation on a large farm.

Continuing Education Credits
Continuing education credits (4.5) are available in soil and water as well as crop management.
