GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The annual Prairie Grains conference is being held, as planned, today and Thursday at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks, N.D.

Blizzard conditions in the area are letting up, and the hope is that at least some people will be able to attend, says David Torgerson, executive director of the Minnesota Association of Wheat Growers, one of the groups sponsoring the annual event. It crosses both commodity and state lines, drawing participants from North Dakota and Minnesota, as well as several other states.

“We know everyone won’t be able to make it, but we’ll take the ones who can,” he says.

About 30 people had arrived by mid-morning. About 900 people normally attend over the two days.

Snow had largely stopped falling Wednesday morning in Grand Forks, and streets were plowed. Traffic was proceeding fairly well, though strong winds and blowing snow required extra caution

Wednesday’s events primarily involve commodity group meetings, some of which have been cancelled, Torgerson says.

The hope is that the weather and roads will continue to improve, allowing more people to attend Thursday, when the general-interest sessions will be held.
