Minnesota pork producer joins National Pork Board

n MONTGOMERY, Minn. -- Pork Act delegates from across the United States elected Montgomery, Minn, pork producer Karen Richter to serve a three-year term on the National Pork Board. Richter will join the board this summer after her approval by the U.S. secretary of agriculture.

Iowa hires new apiarist

n DES MOINES, Iowa -- Andrew Joseph has been hired to be the Iowa state apiarist. He will oversee bee registration and inspection, conduct beekeeper education courses and conduct public outreach on bees and beekeeping. Joseph received his master's degree in entomology from the University of Kentucky.

Those honored with plaques and cash awards in district 1 are Ken Beard, Billings, Mont.; and Ron Watts, Miles City, Mont., with a tie for most new members; Chris Helland, Glasgow, Mont., second most new members; Beard, most total members; and Watts, second most total members. In district 2: Wally Duchscher, Havre, Mont., most new members; Rita Anderson, Fairfield, Mont., second most new members; Gordon Elings, Conrad, Mont.; and Duchscher, second most total members. In district 3: Andre Marcure, Missoula, Mont., most new members; Delie/Newman Agency, Ronan, Mont., second most new members. Montana FFA foundation hires executive director

n BOZEMAN, Mont. -- The Montana FFA Foundation has selected Amber Phelan as executive director. Phelan, who has a bachelor's degree in agriculture education, brings years of FFA experience to the position having served as the North Dakota state president and as the national FFA vice president. She grew up on the family farm and ranch and has been actively involved in production agriculture and agribusiness for many years. The executive director is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the foundation and works closely with the board of directors, which is composed of agricultural producers and business people from across the state.

CropLife hires Runyon

n WASHINGTON, D.C. -- CropLife America has appointed Rex Runyon vice president of communications. Runyon recently served as vice president and corporate secretary of the American Feed Industry Association. Runyon earned a Master of Science degree in public relations from American University as well as undergraduate degrees in English and journalism.

QUALISOY chooses director

n ST. LOUIS -- The QUALISOY board has added Robert Reeves as director of public affairs for the 2008 fiscal year.
