SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. -- Prince Edward Island's potato farmers say heavy rain on Sunday and Monday has made it more difficult for them to successfully harvest their crop.
Wayne Gorrill, co-owner of an Island farm, says the situation is "just short of a disaster at this point."
So far his farm has managed to harvest only 60 hectares of the 380-hectare potato crop.
He says the large amounts of water on the field mean that trucks are harvesting at roughly half the rates of normal years.
However, Brian Beaton, a potato specialist with the P.E.I. Department of Agriculture, says it's too early to assess the harm the heavy rainfall will cause.

He says pink rot is a worry, because it is a disease that can infect the crop weakened by wet conditions.
