JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) -- It is billed as the largest fiber-optic Internet connection in North America.

Officials say a new broadband network in south central North Dakota covers a 10,000-square mile region, or equal to the size of the state of New Jersey. It will bring high-speed Internet service to homes and businesses.

Experts say a fiber connection is superior to other technology, including wireless.

Dallas Tonasger, undersecretary for the U.S. Agriculture Department's Rural Development agency, says the state-of-the-art technology should help create jobs and open new markets.

Tonsager and other officials plan to discuss the project at a news conference Wednesday morning in Jamestown.
