-- ST. PAUL - The Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom board has hired Emily Zweber as its first foundation director. Zweber joins MAITC from the Minnesota Farm Bureau, where she coordinated education and outreach programs. She will be responsible for managing the foundation, with the goal of increasing private sector financial support and further developing the role and activities of the organization. Minnesota Department of Agriculture program director Al Withers will continue to coordinate MAITC's day-to-day program activities. Zweber graduated from South Dakota State University in Brookings in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in agriculture and resource economics and a minor in agriculture marketing. She also is a Hubert H. Humphrey Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.

DTN hires Greg Horstmeier as production editor-- OMAHA, Neb. - DTN has hired Greg Horstmeier as production editor. Horstmeier will play a key role in DTN's efforts to expand its editorial coverage and provide growers with more in-depth information on food and fiber production. With a vast array of industry knowledge and firsthand farm expertise, Horstmeier will bring additional depth and leadership to DTN's leading news and market coverage. Horstmeier comes to DTN from the University of Missouri-Columbia, where he served as director of the Extension and Agriculture Information News office for six years. Before joining the university, he was the chemicals and technology editor for the Farm Journal Magazine, as well as crops editor for the Pennsylvania Farmer. In addition to his journalistic career, Horstmeier still is active in managing family farmland near St. Louis.

Laurie Wilson named to Northwest Minnesota Foundation board-- BEMIDJI, Minn. - Laurie Wilson of Crookston, Minn., recently was elected to the Northwest Minnesota Foundation's board of directors. Wilson is the coordinator of the Office for Students with Disabilities and Counselor for the Office of Career and Counseling Services for the University of Minnesota Crookston. She works to ensure that the university is in compliance with requirements to provide appropriate services and accommodations to qualified students with disabilities. She also provides counseling services to individual students and small groups. In addition, Wilson is a member of the Northwest Minnesota Counselors Association, the Minnesota School Counselors and the American Counseling Associations and the Association for Higher Education and Disability.

Brent Mecham joins Irrigation Association staff-- FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Brent Mecham, a Colorado water conservation specialist and longtime irrigation instructor, has been named Irrigation Association industry development director. Mecham will lead the Irrigation Association Education Foundation and guide the effort to streamline curriculum development.
