-- MINNEAPOLIS - The Minneapolis Grain Exchange board of directors has named its 2007 to '2008 public directors, officers and committees. Four public directors were appointed by the board to serve one-year terms. Curt Denisuik, director of commodity risk management of the Canadian Wheat Board, returns to the board. New to the board are Robert D. Gordon, CEO of DTN; James S. Ginsburg, managing partner at Vernon & Park Capital L.P.; and William R. Power. The board also elected officers and members for the executive committee. Scott A. Cordes of Country Hedging Inc. was re-elected chairman. Other officers include Michael L. Ricks of Cargill Inc., first vice chairman; and Carter K. Ohrt, second vice chairman. Completing the five-member executive committee are Daniel F. Brophy and Power. The board also elected its finance committee. Randy A. Marten of Miller Milling Co. was elected chairman. Other members include Richard E. Cole of General Mills Operations Inc.; Ginsburg; Scott O. Hedin of St.Croix Commodities; Gregory G. Konsor of ConAgra Foods Inc.; Christopher T. Matzdorf of UBS Securities L.L.C.; and Gary S. Weber of Alaron Trading.
Cody Nelson joins American Shorthorn Association-- OMAHA, Neb. - The American Shorthorn Association has hired Cody Nelson as western regional director. Nelson will be responsible for assisting Shorthorn breeders in producing and marketing Shorthorn genetics within the breed and provide breed information to the commercial cattle producers. Nelson previously was show cattle manager of Hunter Farms, Salem, Ill.; elevator operator at Swiss Valley Farms in Central City, Iowa; assistant feed specialist at Donnellson (Iowa) Elevator and Feeds; and most recently managed the cow herd, making breeding and management decisions, sales, marketing and public relations for Cyclone Trace Cattle Co. of Clarion, Iowa. Nelson is a graduate of Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He grew up with an active family in the livestock industry and is a now a partner in the ownership of Nelson Family Shorthorns with his parents, Alan and Crystal Nelson, of Renville, Minn., and his three brothers.
SDARL names executive director-- BROOKINGS, S.D. - South Dakota Agriculture and Rural Leadership board of directors has named a new executive director to take over in 2008. Denny Everson, president of the Agri-Business Division at First Dakota National Bank, will take over as the SDARL executive director in April. Current SDARL Executive Director Dan Gee will retire once the SDARL Class IV graduates in April. Everson will continue in his role as president of the Agri-Business Division at First Dakota National Bank. Everson and others founded the SDARL program in 1999. He currently serves as board chairman.
