The Manitoba Pork Credit Corp. says interest in the advance payments program is building as swine producers become more familiar with it and as the outlook for hog production brightens.
The program provides one year cash advances up to $400,000, with the first $100,000 being interest free.
Program manager Ron Marchenski says, when the program was initiated, producers were very leery on taking an advance but they started looking into it as times got tougher.
Marchenski says many clients question exactly how large an advance to take.
He says 270 clients in the four western provinces have borrowed about $57 million for 2008-2009.
