LAMOURE, N.D. - A regional grain elevator operator has been hit with a proposed penalty of $104,300 by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA cites six willful and eight serious citations of safety codes against Larson Grain Co.
Larson Grain is headquartered in LaMoure and operates grain elevators in five North Dakota towns -- Adrian, Englevale, Fredonia, Linton and Wishek. Larson Grain has 15 days to pay the penalty, request additional information or contest the findings before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
Rhonda Burke, a spokesperson for OSHA, said the current citations were Larson Grain’s only violations in at least five years.
“We’ve had a special emphasis on grain-handling facilities since 2010 because of the high rate of injuries,” she said.
According to information released by OSHA, the citations trace back to an April 19 accident at Larson Grain’s facility in Fredonia when a sweep auger caused multiple lacerations to an unnamed 36-year-old worker, which led to his hospitalization. The case was investigated by OSHA’s Bismarck area office.
