WEST BEND, Wis. -- Gehl Co. announced Monday it's cutting 62 salaried employees and 19 hourly employees because of the economic downturn in housing and construction.
The cuts represent about 18 percent of Gehl's 350 salaried workers in the United States.
Human resources vice president Brian L. Pearlman says most of those affected work at Gehl's corporate office in West Bend.
Pearlman says employees were notified Monday and most received severance or early re-tirement.
The company also says it has laid off 19 hourly workers at Gehl's manufacturing facility in Madison, S.D. Those layoffs follow the elimination of 46 hourly positions about six weeks ago.
