MELVILLE, Saskatchewan - G3 Canada Limited plans to two build new new grain elevators in Saskatchewan.
One will be about 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) north of Melville on Highway 10, the other 7 kilometers west of Saskatoon on Highway 14. The Melville elevator will have 34,000 metric tons of storage capacity, the Saskatoon elevator 42,000 metric tons of storage capacity. Construction will begin in April, and be finished before the 2018 harvest.
Both facilities will allow trucks to unload quickly, and both will be built on CN Rail with 134-car loop tracks. G3 says the sites will provide excellent rail access to its Thunder Bay and St. Lawrence River terminals and to G3 Terminal Vancouver that will become operational in 2020.
"Growing our origination footprint in Saskatchewan is the next step in G3's plans to build a highly competitive coast-to-coast grain handling network," Karl Gerrand, G3 CEO, says in a written statement. "These two new locations are being constructed with the same state-of-the-art truck delivery and rail shipping features as our other new facilities, which are key components of G3's excellent customer service offering."
G3 Canada Limited, based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has assets include grain elevators, port terminals and what the company says is the largest private fleet of grain hopper cars in Canada.

The "state-of-the-art grain export terminal" in North Vancouver, British Columbia, was announced by the company late last year. Construction begins this spring.
