KIMBALL, S.D. - A storage shed and several farming implements were completely destroyed in a Monday morning fire near Kimball.

At approximately 6:35 a.m., seven Kimball firefighters responded to a machine shed fire approximately seven miles northeast of Kimball, which was completely destroyed along with tractors, a bailer, a truck and miscellaneous farm tools that were stored inside, according to Maynard Konechne of the Kimball Fire Department.

When the firefighters arrived, Konechne said the shed was already fully engulfed. About a dozen farmers and Wheat Growers brought tanks of water to assist, which Konechne said was helpful. "Any time we have a fire anymore, as dry as it is ... we just automatically call the farmers, and they just come with water," Konechne said. "They're willing to come because they've been through the same thing, and they know water's important."

The shed burned to the ground, and everything was deemed a total loss. Konechne said the fire may have been started by an electrical issue, but he had not yet spoken with an insurance representative who inspected the scene. There were no injuries.

Konechne said Central Electric Cooperative also responded to temporarily shut off power to a main line before disconnecting the building after the fire was extinguished.
