MOORHEAD — Fire broke out at the American Crystal Sugar early morning Tuesday, March 7.

According to the Moorhead Fire Department, the fire started in dust that was collected in a 6-inch pipe in the dust collection system.

Firefighters were called out just after 4 a.m. Tuesday morning. Crews, along with maintenance staff from American Sugar, had to take apart the pipe to get to the fire and put it out.

Firefighters helped with cleanup but say they have since turned the plant back over to maintenance.

There are no reports of injuries.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
