With Thanksgiving approaching again, the Pilgrims will draw renewed attention in schools and elsewhere. But odds are you won’t be reading or hearing much about the farming challenges that the Pilgrims faced.

  The Soil Science Society of America wants to rectify that. Tom Sauer, with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Agricultural Research Service, provides a blog entry on the society’s web site that examines some of the agricultural difficulties, including sandy soil, confronting the Pilgrims.
