The Diversity, Directions and Dollars 2016 agricultural forum will be held onTuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge in Dickinson, N.D.
“This program will feature internationally known speakers on topics affecting agriculture in the western Dakotas and eastern Montana,” says Kurt Froelich, an agent with the North Dakota State University Extension Service’s Stark/Billings County office, which is hosting this event. “It will provide producers with ideas for improving productivity and decreasing costs while providing high-quality food produced in a sustainable manner.”
The daylong program will begin with registration at 8:15 a.m.

The keynote speaker is John Phipps of U.S. Farm Report. He will discuss some tools to help producers cope with the unprecedented challenges they will face in 2016. Those tools include new ways to approach problems, decision-making aids and information-processing techniques that could help inform producers and guide their logic and emotions.
Other presenters and their topics are:
* Naeem Kalwar, area Extension soil health specialist at the NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center, will share research findings on preventing and mitigating soil salinity and sodicity.
* John Nowatzki, NDSU Extension machine systems specialist, will talk about selecting and using unmanned aerial vehicles in agriculture..

* Frayne Olson, NDSU Extension crops economist, will discuss evaluating crop marketing strategies, the crop outlook and price analysis, and the economics of crop contracting.
* Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension plant pathologist, will talk about preventive measures to avoid cereal crop failures.
“Producers should come away with good ideas they can apply to their farm during the next cropping season and ways to position their farming operation to take advantage of the changes occurring,” Froelich says.
A registration fee of $20 covers all breaks, noon lunch and materials, and is payable at the door.
