FARGO, N.D. -- The Fargo, N.D, area's largest manufacturing plant announced a round of layoffs Nov. 4.
CNH Industrial, a maker of agricultural and construction equipment, announced layoffs of 40 full-time hourly employees at its Fargo manufacturing plant.
The reduction in its manufacturing workforce was in response to market conditions, the Italian-owned company says.
Workers at the Fargo plant learned of the news on Oct. 23. CNH described the layoffs as indefinite, starting in November and being completed by year's end.
The company, which produces Case IH and New Holland brands, says the announcement concerns only the Fargo plant and does not affect other CNH locations in North America.

According to information for the Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce's 2015 directory, CNH had 1,250 full-time equivalents, ranking it the sixth-largest Chamber member.
It had 500 more full-time equivalents than John Deere Electronic Solutions, the next-largest manufacturer on the Chamber's list.
In an opinion piece published earlier this year, Rich Tobin, CNH president and CEO, said the company employed more than 1,100 workers in the Fargo area.
He also said about 40 percent of the tractors and wheel loaders manufactured in Fargo in 2013 were exported.
CNH Industrial announced on Oct. 30 third-quarter revenues of $7.7 billion, down 5.2 percent compared to the third quarter of 2013.
