FSC scholarship winners announced
FARGO, N.D. -- The Farm Credit Services associations have awarded $500 scholarships to four students entering into fall semester: Adam Bettenhausen of Wishek, N.D.; Weston Ginther of Lemmon, S.D.; Aaron Steckler of St. Anthony, N.D.; and Kyle Ferebee of Halliday, N.D. The recipients must have farming and ranching backgrounds and plan on pursuing careers in farming or agriculture.
Brian Buhr named department head
MINNEAPOLIS -- Agricultural economist Brian Buhr has been named head of the Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota. In addition to his research, teaching and extension duties at the university, Buhr is known in the agricultural and agribusiness communities as an expert on a variety of topics related to commodity marketing and information systems and as a speaker on agricultural economic issues. His recent research projects have included evaluating the economic value of traceability for implementing quality improvement in the meat and livestock supply chain and an evaluation of the economic value of animal agriculture in Minnesota.
Phillip Jallo named inspector for N.D. ag department

BISMARCK, N.D. -- North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson has appointed Phillip Jallo as an inspector for the pesticide, feed and fertilizer team in the North Dakota Department of Agriculture. A native of Fordville, N.D., Jallo attended Minot State University in Bottineau and graduated from the University of Minnesota in Crookston with a degree in natural resource management. In his new position, Jallo will conduct routine inspections and investigations of farms, ranches, dealers, distributors and manufacturers related to the sale, distribution and use of pesticides. He also will inspect feed and fertilizer manufacturers, distributors and dealers to ensure their products are properly registered in south-central North Dakota.
Fletcher R.?Hall appointed summit executive director
POTOMAC, Md. -- Fletcher R. Hall, president and CEO of F.R. Hall Associates L.L.C., has been named executive director of the 2008 Summit on Agricultural and Food Transport to be held Dec. 2 and 3 in Washington, according to Gene Griffin, executor director of the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute.
Dan Moser certified as crop consultant
COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. -- Dan Moser of Centrol Inc. in Larimore, N.D., recently certified a professional crop consultant. To be certified, Moser is required to have a bachelor of science or bachelor of arts degree and at least six years experience, as well as pass an exam and complete a pesticide safety training course.
