RED DEER, Alta. -- Agri-Trend Data Corp. of Red Deer and U.S.-based The J.R. Simplot Co. say they have created a joint-venture company to sell proprietary agri-data software to agricultural producers and processors in the United States.

Financial terms of the deal, announced Tuesday, were not revealed.

The new joint-venture company, called U.S. Agri-Data Solutions LLC, will sell the agricultural data management system to growers, food processors, and other agricultural applications in the U.S., Agri-Trend said in a release.

The fee-based data management technology has been used extensively in Canada for the last decade and has been customized and tested for U.S. cropping systems and patterns for the last two growing seasons.

The software transmits specific farming data to crop advisors, banks, processors and others who have a vested interest in a particular crop.

The companies said the system can also be used for documenting carbon sequestration and by processors for contract compliance and to document land-applied processed water.

Bill Whitacre, CEO-elect of J.R. Simplot, said the technology has wide applications beyond his Boise, Idaho company.
