Pickup goes through wall during ND truck pull event, striking 2 people

VALLEY CITY, N.D. -- Two people were struck by a pickup participating in a truck pull event at the North Dakota Winter Show here, and law enforcement are seeking spectator videos of the crash.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2004 Dodge pickup driven by Nathan Bell, 19, Gardner, N.D., was pulling a 1994 Peterbilt skid vehicle at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, in the arena. 

The Dodge pickup struck a large tire, placed as a safety buffer between the arena and the wall separating the arena from the east concourse of the Winter Show building, and both the tire and pickup went through the wall.

A 15-year-old girl and 33-year-old woman were struck.

The girl was taken to Mercy Hospital, where she was treated and released, while the woman declined treatment, the Highway Patrol said.

Units of the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office, Valley City Police Department, Valley City Fire Department and Barnes County Ambulance responded to the accident.
