No one was injured Tuesday following a fire that completely burned a hay barn on a rural residence northeast of Mitchell.

Firefighters were on scene for about 2 ½ hours at 24599 411th Ave., according to Battalion Chief Joe Dolezal of the Mitchell Fire Department. Authorities cleared the scene at about 6 p.m. after they knocked down the blaze that sent large billowing smoke in the air.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is being investigated. The Davison County Sheriff’s Office and Letcher Fire Department were also on scene. The fire was about three miles north and two miles east of Mitchell.

The original call to the Mitchell Department of Public Safety came from someone driving down Highway 37. The barn, owned by Dustin Stanowski, is a total loss.
