ROCHESTER, Minn. — A tasty addition to the 2023 Agweek Farm Show in Rochester was free cheese curd sampling from Little Red Dairy, with attendees voting on a winning flavor.

Little Red Dairy is owned and operated by Alan and Emily Miller. They own 250 cows on their farm near Thielman in southeast Minnesota.

Little Red Dairy offers nine cheese curd flavors but were offering samples of three flavors during the show, plain, garlic and their newest flavor — pickle.

"It's my personal favorite," Emily said.

Attendees at the Agweek Farm Show, which took place March 7-8 in Rochester, could vote on their favorite of the three sample flavors, putting a toothpick in the jar of the preferred flavor.

The Millers began processing cheese in 2018 and sell their cheese through local stores, farmers markets and at their farm store.

They were selling curds as well as sausage sticks at the show and ran out of curds.

Emily said they try to formulate most of their own season mixes, which are just added at the end of cheese-making process.

The dairy mostly sells cheese as curds, but do press the curds into blocks of cheese to include in gift boxes for the holiday season.

And the winner? Pickle!

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of "staff." Often, the "staff" byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
