A North Dakota couple has been honored for their work in beef breeding.

Don and Sarah Nordby received the Service to Industry Award on Nov. 5 from the Beef Reproduction Leadership Team during the Virtual Applied Reproductive Strategies in Beef Cattle Symposium.

“I know of no one in the industry more passionate about helping other people be successful than Donald. He is a strong advocate of the use of artificial insemination to bring improved genetics to producers of all sizes,” said Todd Sears, ABS beef sales director.

Don and Sarah’s operation is called Badland Genetics, located in Amidon, N.D. Don Nordby has been providing artificial insemination services to clients since 1993, and has sold more than 250,000 units of ABS semen since.

The Service to Industry Award recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond in their work within the artificial insemination industry and helped promote the use of artificial insemination and estrous synchronization by beef producers.

The couple’s passion for the industry has not gone unnoticed. The pair have gained recognition and respect by many within the artificial insemination industry, as well as the cattle industry in general.

“Donald holds two AI Management Schools each year, and these schools last a full four days. He is a stickler on proper training and cow practice to ensure competence is achieved by his students. Much time is also spent in the classroom on the value of reproductive technologies and tools to achieve reproductive efficiency and success in the cow herd,” said Merlyn Sandbulte, ABS global beef business manager.

And while the Nordbys have been in the industry for almost three decades, they are still committed to keeping up with the new and emerging technologies, and making sure their customers come first.

“He has been willing to introduce new technologies and change with a changing industry as new knowledge becomes available. One thing that Don and Sarah have not changed over the years is their commitment to their customers, ” said Cliff Lamb, Texas A&M University Animal Science department head.
