ND farmer and longtime Red River Valley Fair Board member dies at 105

FARGO, N.D. -- Roy Faught Jr., who had a long history in Upper Midwest agriculture, died on Monday, Oct. 28, according to an obituary published in the Forum. He was 105.

FARGO, N.D. - Roy Faught Jr., who had a long history in Upper Midwest agriculture, died on Monday, Oct. 28, according to an obituary published in the Forum . He was 105.

Faught served 60 years on the Red River Valley Fair Board, which puts on the Big Iron Farm Show every year. Faught organized field demonstrations at Big Iron for 29 years.

Faught was born June 15, 1914 on a farmily farm near Absaraka. He married Dacotah Dickinson on Jan. 17, 1936 at Moorhead, Minn. They ran Faught Mercantile and Minneapolis Moline dealership until January 1942. Later, they operated a grocery story in Minneapolis, and Faught also worked at a Minneapolis Moline factory. They returned to Absaraka in 1944 and farmed there for many years.

Faught served on the local soil conservation board and the National Association of Conservation Districts. He also was a 4-H leader and a member of Farm Bureau, where he played an active role in the state of Nodak Mutual Insurance.

Faught in 2013 published a book on his life's history, entitled, "My Admissions: The first 99 years." The book was donated earlier this year to the Institute for Regional Studies Archives book collection at North Dakota State University. The book recalls Faught's memories of the 1918 flu epidemic, driving teams of horses, farming in the "Dirty Thirties," The Depression, Prohibition, World War II and more.

Visitation is today,Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Casselton. The funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with visitation one hour prior.
