Shannon Schlecht, originally from Enderlin, N.D., has been named vice president of policy for U.S. Wheat Associates.

North Dakota native Shannon Schlecht has been named U.S. Wheat Associates' vice president of policy, the organization announced Thursday.

Schlecht joined the organization in 2001 as assistant director in the West Coast office, then transferred to Cairo, Egypt, as assistant regional director, Middle East, East and North Africa. He became deputy director of policy in and 2009 and director of policy in 2011.

Originally from Enderlin, N.D., and a member of a farm family, Schlecht earned bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural economics from North Dakota State University.

U.S. Wheat Associates is the industry's market development organization working in more than 100 countries. Its mission is to "develop, maintain, and expand international markets to enhance the profitability of U.S. wheat producers."
