Iran bought 3.6 million metric tons of wheat from domestic farmers

DUBAI - Iran has bought 3.6 million metric tons of wheat from domestic farmers this year in state-sponsored purchases, the deputy minister of agriculture said on Monday, an almost 25 percent increase from the same period last year.

DUBAI - Iran has bought 3.6 million metric tons of wheat from domestic farmers this year in state-sponsored purchases, the deputy minister of agriculture said on Monday, an almost 25 percent increase from the same period last year.

The state news agency IRNA quoted Ali Ghanbari, who is also the chairman of the Government Trading Corporation (GTC), as saying that by mid-July last year, Iran had bought 2.9 million metric tons of wheat from Iranian farmers.
