BISMARCK, N.D. -- North Dakota's Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says more combiners are needed to help bring in North Dakota's 2014 harvest.

"The Harvest Hotline has a long list of farmers who need combining services, but a short list of combiners looking for work," Goehring says. "Right now, the number of farmers on the list is more than three times the number of harvesters."

Goehring says weather conditions are largely responsible for variable crop maturity across the state.

"Combiners who are looking for work and farmers who need custom combining should call us at 701-328-2391," Goehring says. "Your name and information will be entered into the Harvest Hotline database to be matched up with other callers."

North Dakota Department of Agriculture employees will answer calls to the hotline weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Callers can also leave a message on evenings and weekends. The service is free of charge.

First used in 1992, when adverse weather caused a heavy demand for custom combining, the Harvest Hotline has been offered annually as a free service for farmers and combiners.
