BRUSHVALE, Minn. -- A man trapped in a grain bin was rescued by local authorities Tuesday morning with the help of specialized equipment.
Authorities responded to a 911 call at 10:27 a.m. about a worker stuck chest-high in corn at the Brushvale Elevator, Wilkin County Sheriff Rick Fielder said.
It took about an hour to get Joseph Jansen, of Breckenridge, out of the 400,000-bushel bin, said Breckenridge Fire Department Chief Brian Conzemius, who was working at his own grain bin at home when he found out Jansen was in trouble.
Conzemius and Wahpeton Assistant Fire Chief Joel Hermes used grain bin rescue tubes to build retaining walls around Jansen and then shoveled out grain from around him so he could free himself.
"You essentially just dig them out," Conzemius said of people who get stuck in grain.

It was the first time the rescue tubes have been used, Fielder said. Conzemius said the equipment was donated by various local groups.
"We've trained for situations like this in the past," Fielder said.
