$1 million USDA loan to help build ND ethanol plant

SPIRITWOOD, N.D. -- A $1 million rural development loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to Northern Plains Electric Cooperative will help finance the Dakota Spirit AgEnergy ethanol plant under construction in Spiritwood, according to JoAnn Rodenbiker, director of business development for the cooperative.

"We're just a small part of the group of financiers for Dakota Spirit AgEnergy," she says. "The loan passes through to them."

The loan was part of a more than $5.7 million package of loans to cooperatives announced Sept. 23.

Other loans include:

-- Verendrye Electric Cooperative, $1 million, to help Moure Equipment construct a farm equipment facility in Harvey.

-- SRT Communications, $1 million, to help Moure Equipment construct a farm equipment facility in Velva.

-- Slope Electric Cooperative, $2 million, to help West River Veterinary Clinic build a new clinic in Hettinger.

-- Nodak Electric Cooperative, $775,000, to help S&S Grain purchase and renovate a building for grain drying, handling and storage in Walhalla.
