Moorhead, ND (WDAY TV) -- A perfect example of the danger of going out on ice right now, luckily this story has a happy ending.
Debbie Olson and her 2 year old Golden Retriever Maggie are home safe. They were on a walk this afternoon, when Maggie took off toward a boy on the other side of the river.
She broke through the 1/2-inch thick ice and was unable to climb out. Firefighters came to the rescue and pulled her to safety.
Olson says, "He came and put his suit on, and walked through and broke the ice and got her out. But, she'd been in about 15 minutes and she was starting to cry and stuff and I don't think she would have made it too much longer. So, thankfully, they came and got her out."
The fire department also wants to remind pet owners not to go in after their pets if they fall through the ice.
