The joy of timely rain
Many things in agriculture are satisfying. Harvesting a bumper crop, selling crops or livestock at a high price, watching a sick or injured animal return to good health, helping a client make the right decision -- all these things, and more, bring pleasure and pride.
But a lifetime in Upper Midwest agriculture tells me that nothing quite compares with timely rain for bringing joy. Precipitation that falls at a key time, when crops or pasture really need it, brings a satisfaction that can't be described unless you've experienced it.
Parts of Agweek Country have received timely rain in the past few days. Congratulations to aggies who got it. Condolences to those who didn't.
Do you agree? Is timely rain the most satisfying, joyful thing in ag for you? Or is it something else?
